7:40am
We just took off to see the Pandas. I slept OK last night, but I was woken up for a bit around midnight (I think) when some people got in town, and then early this morning when somebody took off. But for 2 bucks a night, I can't really complain too much. Last night's Sichuan Opera was excellent. My favorite part was the amazing masks and costumes. The erhu (2 stringed chinese fiddle) soloist was really talented as well. The best part, as well as most famous from the Sichuan Opera, was the changing masks and fire breathing. Some of them would change their (beautiful) masks they were wearing with lightening-fast speed, while others would do some fire breathing. Good stuff.
Sooo... on to my plans... I'm definitely doing the Yangtze river tour, which lasts 4 days, and is supposed to go through some beautiful scenery (including China's famous 3 gorges) and finishes at the 3 gorges dam, the biggest in the world, apparently. I take the bus out to the starting city Sunday morning early. I'll be taking the 3rd class option for about 780 RMB (approx. 100 USD) where I share a 6 bed room with our own bathroom and shower. I paid the higher "tour" price which includes all the admission prices along the way as wel as a Chinese speaking (haha) tour guide. Just another chance to practice my Chinese! 10:40am About to head back from the Panda Research Center. The pandas were all as cute as expected, and it was nice to see them in a pretty wide open space roaming around freely. there were adult pandas as well as younger pandas. I was able to check them all out as well as some pretty nice pictures, especially after this really nice guy that was in the group lent me his awesome 700 USD Nikon lense.
The red pandas were really cool as well. Now I can tell my friend Monica from Peru, who keeps asking me if I've seen them that I have. Hola Monica. Si, ya por fin los vi a los famosos osos pandas. Tomorrow I might try to head out to Mt. Leshan to see the Grand Buddha, but who knows. It all depends on how I'm feeling at the time. I might also just take it easy. More thumbnails ...
