I wake up aound 7am, after about 5 hours of sleep.  I get up and greet Eurico, my couchsurfing host in Rio de Janeiro.  We have some breakfast and then walk around on Ipanema's boardwalk.  After heading back and washing my clothes at Eurico's apartment, I head out to the metro station.

I get of at the Cinelandia stop (2.4 Reales / 1.2 USD), near the downtown area of Rio, and walk around, taking pictures of the beautiful architecture and monuments.  I'm able to get away with my student ID at the "Museo de Bellas Artes" (Fine Arts Museum, 2 Reales, 4 Reales normal free) and check out the nice, but limited painting gallery, as well as the Louvre marble statue reproductions.

Afterwards I head off towards the Museum of National History (6Reales / 3USD) which is absolutely fantastic, with a a lenghty, throrough exposition on Brazil's history and culture.  Nearby, I walk under a bridge where they have a bit of a flea market.  Not the safest looking area, but I see other locals, so I figure it's ok.  I end up buying a couple of Portuguese language comics, and walk away, back towards the downtown area.

After amusing myself about how noone seems to arrive to the most famous landmark of Rio de Janeiro, I figure out I'm supposed to take the bus number 180 (2.1 Reales) to the bottom of the hill where the "Cristo de Corcovado" is situated.  I'm not amused when I figure out that, to get up, I have to pay about 36 Reales (entrance included) for a round trip.

As I'm almost arriving the entrance a few drops start falling, but my luck hasn't run out yet.  As I take a few thousand pictures, along with the throngs of tourists, it starts to drizzle a bit more, and after 10 or 15 minutes, it starts coming down quite a bit stronger.  Time to make my exit, I figure, and head back to the taxi.

I make it back down, and take the bus back to Copacabana, where I buy some croissants with ham and butter (fantastic as usual), some sweets (which I always need) and go back to the apartment.  A good day overall.  I managed to see quite a bit of things, and tomorrow I hope to maybe see some more, but for now, after not having slept well for around 3 nights, it's time to sleep in tonight.
