This morning in the Bar of the Sea Alaska Inn I was having a coffee and chatting with the bartender. (who was wearing Carharts) and he gave me  some great advice. He told me while I was in town not to miss the Salmon Glacier.(which is actually is in B.C. but you can only get there through Alaska) I did the drive and it was soo cool. At the end, well not really the end, but as far as you could drive because the rest of the road hadn't had the snow plowed off it yet. Yes I drove between 4 and 5' hight snow drifts on the last day in June. The snow was glowing blue in the sunlight and the snowmelt was roaring, trickling, meandering and falling it's way down the mountains all around me.

On the way back down, I had to stop and back up twice for people coming up the hill. Really the one going down has right of way, but they didn't seem to know that. Thank god I know how to back up good as the first time I had to back up for almost a 1/4 mile till I found a wide spot, and the second time I had to park almost right on the edge of the cliff so the dude in the really big truck could squeak by. I breathed a big sigh of relief when I got down below the snow pack and hit dry gravel. Whew. Another adventure.

I also on the advice of the really nice bartender drove all the way down the dock to the inlet and got to watch the mail plane take off. COOL!

He was so nice. We talked for a while and when I left I left him a tip for the talking and the travel advice. Meandered in to get a couple postcards and a sticker and he said because I had left him a tip, they were on the house. (I'm pretty sure the bar is his so not stealing) We talked about Madagascar.

After the Glacier Adventure I stopped back in Hyder for lunch at The Bus on the advice of two motorcyclists I met at the Airforce Inn in Watson Lake. (They also recommended I go to Hyder in the first place) I had Bay Scallops sauteed in garlic butter with crinkle cut fries served on a paper plate. YUM YUM! All while sitting at a picnic table with a couple from PA and a Couple from Truckee. We shared experiences and advice on things to do and see.
