Got up in Edmonton and made my way to see Jack, we had a nice visit. *waves at Jack in case he's reading this* Then, *catchy tune plays* "On the road again" South! Back down the # 2 and right after Calgary, on a whim, I decided to cross back over into BC through Crowsnest Pass and sleep in Fernie. I didn't know then my impromptu plans were about to be derailed. Literally.
I was planning on staying in Fernie, BC, but when I got there, the entire town was booked for a Railman's Convention. Drove to Elko, almost hit a... herd?? of elk, crossing the road in the dark. Elko is so small it didn't even have a hotel. Hmmm, Ah what the hell. It's only 60 some kms to the border. Might as well cross and sleep in the US. So, I finally reached the border at Roosville. Drove up and got the THIRD DEGREE from immigration. All because I live in Belize.*rolls eyes* If I WAS carrying illegal goods or weapons, do you really think I would tell you just because you asked me THREE times?
Anyhow, they grudgingly let me go after keeping me inside for 30 minutes while they tossed the car outside. That is the most intense scrutiny I have ever been subjected to while crossing an international border. They even took copies of my Belizean Passport, and the US Visa I have in it. Asked me where I was going to be staying?? "I don't know, why don't you give me the name of a good hotel?" Made it to Eureka, and almost drove through it but changed my mind and pulled a U-ey. Pulled up to a motel. Locked up tight. Eureka is so small that even the hotels close. I finally found one that was open, sort of. It's looked rather dodgy but my choices were limited to none so...
Pleasantly surprised to find the rooms VERY clean just no internet. Regardless, the bed was comfortable and the water was hot and STAYED hot. :0 ) I read a book and watched a little TV. Drifted off to sleep clean and pleasantly warm.
