Where I stayed

We were both looking forward to Bali for some beach time after all the sight seeing so far! We arrived, got our visa (which we didn't know we needed!) then went through security. Chris went infront while I waited behind the line. He had been there for a while but it was all smiles so seemed ok he then called me over! I handed my passport in while Chris told me the guard had 'done him a favour' as his passport wouldn't scan (yet it has been fine in every other country) & he wanted a money or gift in return. This was a bit uncomfortable so I just got my passport & we walked off!!! We got our bags & went to get cash out. We hadn't worked out the exchange rate so this was difficult as the notes are all thousand denominations- we got as much out as we thought would be ok then got a taxi.
We think he took us the long way round - as usual but we saw some of the town! It was very poor with small streets bustling with mopeds & shops! We got to our hotel which was down a side street off a main road. The hotel was lovely, it was a few two story blocks surrounded by gardens & a pool area. The music was on & people were relaxing on beanbags or having a massage under the gazebo. It was a good atmosphere with a mix of people mainly Aussies though! We quickly got changed for the last few hours of sun then went out for a meal!
We went walking one way up the strip & looked out for places we had heard people chatting about! At the restaurant we had good food & watched a local band sing English songs with made up words, Bruno mars was a funny one! We then went for a drink & came across a bar we had heard about. It seemed busy but it turned out all the staff were outside creating a atmosphere! As soon as we walked in we twigged what type of bar this was geared towards hookers!! The girls eyed up Chris as we sat down & there was a few old men with Indonesian girls on their arms...sleazy! We felt rude not to stay for one so we quickly downed the drink & left!!
We got up early the next day & had our free breakie which was good it still had a few random choices though! We went to find the beach which was off the main busy road down a side street called Poppies 2. We wandered down this small lane filled with shops selling sunglasses, clothes, surfboards, dodgy money exchanges?! There was also little men with tazers who liked to make you jump as you walked passed! We found the beach in the end which was hidden behind a big concrete wall, that looked ancient & had gaps to walk through to the sea. We bought beach towels typical tourist ones I <3 Bali & we were ripped off again due to not knowing what our money worked out to!
The beach was huge really wide & went on for miles! You could instantly tell why surfers love it the waves were massive! All lined up by the wall there were men selling beers, water & had their own section of sunbeds. We sat on the sand to start with but because Chris couldn't fit fully on his towel & was stressing about having sand everywhere we moved to a sunbed! Once we moved we got hounded by ladies offering massages which they proceeded to trial on me & people selling sarongs, hats, bracelets you name it! We had a lazy day in the sun & headed back late afternoon as we were both burnt! We chilled out with our after sun on, watched a movie then went out to sample the nightlife!
We had tapas & cocktails at a trendy bar & watched the street get busier - mainly with mopeds!! It was crazy! We then moved to a Irish bar that was attached to the main club that had a few levels with balconies overlooking the bustling street. We had a few more mojitos & then the jäger mister came out!!....
The next morning I was quite hungover but wanted to get up to not miss the sun! Just as we were about to leave for the pool Chris mentioned what we drank & this made me throw up!! He then decided to take pictures of me..this was not my highlight of this week!! I stayed on my lounger most of the day & was pleased it was a little overcast, Chris seemed fine!! We had food later on then a early night!
The other days were spent by the pool & we had more chilled evenings. We found a mall that was being developed with a Topshop & NewLook in...I couldn't resist, Chris wasn't too happy I dragged him shopping! We had a really good evening in another roof top bar that had a local band playing - they were fab & took requests - they sang under the bridge by Red Hot Chilli Peppers for us! Our last night we went to a Mediterranean Ibiza style bar & had tapas (again)!
We didn't sight see as much as we could have done in Bali however we had a really relaxing week & there's more of a excuse to go back there now!!
Next up, Malaysia!
