CMB - I am now sitting at home trying to wrap up the details of my life before I hit the road for an amazing 8 (maybe less maybe more?) months but wanted to start this blog off while I had some time.  I was able to finish a pseudo pack the other night and so far so good.  Not too easy planning what to bring for 8 months across the globe... Himalayas, deserts, tropics, beach... wtf!?!  how the hell is this all going to fit in 1 backpack.  I think there will be a lot of laundry and probably throwing clothes out and buying some new ones along the way... who knows.  When I get back, I will probably look like a Peruvian somehow misplaced in the Middle East wearing a Chinese straw hat speaking in bushman tongue with clicks and whistles.

I really hope some of you choose to meet up with us somewhere along the trip.  I am encouraging everyone I know to figure out some way to make it work for them.  Would be great to see any or all of you.  Who knows maybe we will group up with some randoms and some friends or family and be traveling in a pack across the world.  Nonetheless, it is all exciting no matter what and I can't believe this is actually happening - in a week and a 1/2 no less!  Awesome and crazy all at the same time.

Funny side note  - Just the other day I was getting vaccinated for the trip and was picking up my prescriptions for Typhoid and Malaria (both pills).   The doctor had given me a prescription for 360 pills (years supply) for malaria since I would be traveling so many places over such a long period of time and wanted make sure I was protected.  He failed to mention that the pills were not covered by insurance and that they were $7+ per pill.  The pharmacist came around to tell me I would owe ~$2400 for all of them.  Nooo big deal.  Not working, traveling for 8 months, $2400 sure, didn't know what to do with that money anyways...  Needless to say, I didn't get those yet and will be looking into filling this prescription in Australia or China or Thailand where I think I can get the pills for much cheaper and won't be getting 360 of them either.  Anyways, the pharmacist figured I was going on a big trip from the prescriptions I was getting filled - also some altitude sickness and heavy duty stomach bacteria meds.  We started talking about the trip and soon all the pharmacists were talking with me about the whole thing.  It has been an amazing past few weeks not working and talking to everyone I meet about it.  This trip is the sort of thing that brings everyone in and starts a conversation.  It is a great coffee table book type starter for day-to-day conversation.  Everyone I have met in the past few weeks has had something interesting to say about "the trip" or traveling or some story of a long trip they did some time ago.  All great information about this place or another and traveling to see the world.  Ends up the pharmacist wanted to subscribe to this blog as well.  I wanted to thank all the people I have talked to that have helped me shape this trip.  Information from squash players, friends, co-workers, random people I have met - it has all be very helpful.  Thanks!  Hopefully this blog will inspire you to take a trip somewhere in the near future.

Below is the projected itinerary Makely and I are planning on taking around the world but we are also trying to leave a lot of details undecided and see where our travels take us so who knows where we will end up.  Hopefully I can map the trip out somehow and you can see that as well.
