Today we went to the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzen.  Pilsner, the type of beer, originated here, where Pilsner Urquell was brewed from local crops and local mineral water.  The tour was awesome.  We saw the traditional brew kettles and the modern ones, as well as a very modern new packaging plant.  We also tasted some unpastuerized beer directly from fermenting barrels.

I was born and lived my first 30 years of my life in Pilsen.
The beer (Pilsner Urquell) has one quality, which cannot be duplicated
anywhere in former Czecholsovakia. The water has a high pH and my father, having problem with urinary tract and stones, was on the drinking binge for 2 months and actually passed the stones, which were getting smaller by drinking higher pH (beer diluted the sharp edges and there was no need for the surgery.) This was 40 some years ago and I hear, that modern medicine
came to similar conclusion and is using a drink, which works similar way,
but without the benefit of being drunk.

The beer was better under the communists, who liked to drink. Today they
sold everything to western companies and I hear that Pilsner is owned by
some South African outfit.
