San Jose is a great city but a little polluted. We arrived in San Jose (my first international trip) and I knew, as we made the bus ride to our hotel, that the travel bug would be a constant distraction for me for many years to come. After checking in we found a nice restaurant where I had my first Cerveza Imperial. It was cold and went down great. We spent our remaining time in San Jose checking out the local markets and eateries before boarding a bus to the Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo. I quickly learned that the buses in Costa Rica have to be the most uncomfortable in the world. Halfway through the trip my ass had fallen asleep. I did not fall asleep, but I could no longer feel my legs, making it very difficult to even stand up. The highlight of the bus ride was the 20 or so miles of the Dole Banana Farm. As far as you could see on both sides of the road were banana trees. Amazing! As we finally pull into Puerto Viejo the rain starts coming down.
