My first trip out of the country.  I admit, I am a bit nervous, but it should be fun.  Michelle studied abroad in Costa Rica, and said it was great.  I get to the airport and the ticket agent asks for my passport.  I explained to her that everything I had read said that a birth certificate would suffice with a driver's license.  She went on to say that because of out connection in Guatemala, I would need one.  She must have sensed the nervousness, and said she would let me go, but there was no guarantee that I would be able to board the plane in Guatemala.  Not a good start to my international travel experiences to say the least.  As we descended through the thick polluted air of Guatemala City, the knots in my stomach tightened.  Was I to be detained in this strange new place? For how long?  Would I ever see the Great State of Texas again?  I deboarded the plane and instead of customs, we were directed to our next gate.  I think I am in the clear, but all I want to do is get on that plane and get up in the air.  After the longest hour of my life we are once again airborne and heading to San Jose.
