Once through customs, we quickly gathered our bags and located the driver that would be transferring us to our first resort, Palmetto Bay Plantation. Our driver was very courteous and offered to stop at the supermarket so we could stock up on food and drinks before arriving at such an isolated resort
After familiarizing ourselves with our unit we stepped out onto the deck for some peaceful observation of our surroundings. Relaxing in the hammock, we saw them
We headed to dinner at the resort restaurant, set back just a short distance from the ocean. This is the only place to eat while staying at the resort unless you utilize the cabin's kitchen, rent a vehicle, or take a taxi into town. Although most of the menu items looked appetizing, we enjoyed our selections of the Spicy Jalapeno Red Snapper and the Asian Noodles with Shrimp. During dinner we heard a sea plane land off our beach and began to dream about what life down here would be like. We dined next to Brent and Julie from Los Angeles, California, one of the couples that had shared the shuttle with us to the resort. It was relieving to learn that they are experienced divers and to hear their experiences prior to us taking our first breaths underwater.
After dinner, and eager to catch our first Roatan sunset, we headed to the fine sanded beach and a 100 yard long pier ending with a quaint palapa. We gazed towards the horizon a bit from within the palapa before trekking down the beach for a better view. Our short hike took us to the beautiful, palm-lined Marbella Beach. We had it all to ourselves. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous, and we managed to snap a couple great shots of it before it quickly disappeared into the Caribbean. It was a great end to a great day!
