OMG we are officially back in California. We still have a bit of time to go but we are technically very close to home - less than 8 hours of driving away.

Today we got to once again use our National Parks pass bringing our total usage up to $74 worth.

For the record --
Craters of the Moon: $8
Yellowstone: $25
Carlsbad: $20
White Sands Monument: $6
Joshua Tree: $15

Just $6 more and it will have been worth the money.

We cruised through Joshua Tree National park from the north and did a few little walks and stop offs enjoying the giant rock formations and the strange and wonderful Joshua trees and other desert plants along the way. We even managed to get lost for a while during a fairly simply trail walk. Thankfully it was only about 70 degrees outside and not 100. I can't imagine this place in the summer.

Driving to the park it was strange to see the houses & shacks people had scattered around the land choosing to make this dessert their home. It definitely has its own distinct beauty...but where do you get your groceries?

For the next two nights we will be living the good life at a hotel that looks like it is surrounded by 14 golf courses.
