Where I stayed
So long nice sunny weather, the cold is back today. We just missed the start of one stadium tour so we booked a later one and grabbed some lunch down the road at a place called Prince Lebanese Grill. It was pretty decent and apparently had been featured in Diners, Drive Ins & Dives which they happily had written all over their menu (thyme pie was a featured item).
We did the VIP tour which included a visit to a private suite, print media, press box & The Cotton Bowl office vestibule (not that I had any idea what the Cotton Bowl was). We also saw the normal self guided tour stuff: post game interview room, Players & Cheerleaders locker rooms, a trip to the hallway where the players enter the field from and best of all...we actually got to set foot on the AstroTurf
I am a fair weather football fan at best, but this place could make me a believer. I was absolutely mesmerized by the Jumbo-tron ($600/hour to run apparently). Their goal was to decorate the place like a 5 star hotel and not a stadium and I think they did a pretty good job -screens, clubs, suites, bars, plush seats etc.
They also had art commissioned all over the place by notable contemporary artists which was pretty cool; we only saw a few things on our tour but they had a whole other tour purely covering the art there. That oil money goes a long way.
Our tour guide Tammy kept referring to a 'Mr. Jones' which I later found out was the not so beloved owner, president & GM Jerry Jones. Again my lack of sporting knowledge put me at a disadvantage here but it does appear that Mr. Jones did at the very least build them a pretty fabulous place to play. If Jerry wants to come with a wrecking ball to Oakland, please give him a key to the Coliseum.
On the way back we stopped in to one of the 3 steak houses all next to each other and chatted to the staff for a while. They tried to convince us to try their 50oz steak which seemed like a steal at $1/oz but after this last few weeks of meat mania we had to decline.
