What I did
New Orleans is deserted this time in the morning so we headed over to Cafe Du Monde to tick off our final New Orleans must do.
Cafe Du Monde is a traditional French coffee shop which has been located at the same site since 1862. The menu consists of three items Coffee, Cafe Au Lait and Beignets (Yummy square french donuts, pronounced Benyays). All the prices are set reassuringly high for all the tourist folk such as ourselves.
After stuffing ourselves with Beignets we wandered around the French Market which like everything else in this town doesn't seem to get going pre noon
With an afternoon to kill we headed over to the LSU campus to check out the facilities.Who would have thought it, Chris Marshall made it into University after all. First stop was to check out "Mike" the tiger's enclosure. Yep that's right the school mascot is a tiger and they have a real one. The enclosure is pretty big, but i couldn't help feeling that Mike would have appreciated some fellow tiger company, and probably was not that stoked to spend all his years living on a college campus. We wandered around the campus and managed to pass as mature students without getting kicked out.
Back at our hotel we checked out the hotel managers social hour, which was not very social but did allow me to pour myself a couple of Bud lights. I felt like a real life bar tender
Finished the night at "Mansurs" a spendy restaurant right next to our hotel. We were brave and ordered the Charbroiled Oysters, and i believe i am now officially an oyster convert. Who knows next stop caviar? Les continued the experiential culinary theme by ordering the local cocktail "Ramo's Gin Fizz" which contains egg white which has to be shaken for five minutes (Don't think our bar tender was too impressed with that order). Les said it didn't taste too good, but like a real trooper she didn't let a drop of gin go to waist and finished it all.
