What I did
Pretty awesome tour. It lasted 1.5 hours and that was more than thorough. The tour trolley drove right on the racetrack and all around all the other areas. We got to sit in the luxury suites that looked over the back straightaway of the course. (The Superstretch...wooooo!)
They also kept banging on about 'Daytona Rising' which they described as a $400 million re-imagining of an American Icon. Basically they are making a ton of upgrades to make this place into race car Disneyland in time for the Daytona 500 in 2016...it did sound pretty impressive.
We tried on some race jackets - I guess those racers are fairly small since the one Chris tried on was meant to be an XL
It was crazy hot out on that course so getting inside the air-conditioned Volusia shopping Mall after the tour was a welcome climate change. The end of summer sales treated us well, I picked up a swimsuit to replace my lost bikini and Chris got a bunch of nice shirts super cheap at Dillard's. (Dept. store out here)
We finished off the day swimming in the ocean and in the pool. For some reason the real children in the pool could not be bothered to go on the waterslide so Chris started the trend of adults using the slide. It was a pretty good one with a few fast turns, after watching Chris go and the slide not breaking I went for a slide....wheeeee!!
We actually made Spaghetti tonight not last night (Chris got it wrong in yesterdays blog). So I'll tell you about our soup we made last night. After heating up two cans of veggie soup and having a few bites I realized I had just eaten a chunk of chicken which is always a little worrying in Vegetable soup. I told C this and he immediately gagged and spit out a little chunk o' chicken he had just put in his mouth. Our detective work soon brought to light that we had accidentally used one Veggie can and one Chicken & Rice can and mixed them. Such attention to detail... It was still pretty good - even better once we knew it was OK that there were floating meat products in it.
