Stopped off in Castle Rock for Lunch at Lacey Rha's Cafe, very good and very slow. The lady cracked me up when she said they were "VERY" busy. (there was a table of 6 and Chris and I in there and the place was pretty big....but to be fair just one lady was cooking everything up, so she was not ready for randoms like us.) But we came prepared with maps/books to keep us busy so the 30 min. wait was fine....and we are of course no longer in a hurry to anywhere.
Got to our spacious suite complete with kitchen stocked with OJ & Organic Oatmeal...yum "free" stuff. We settled in and then walked down to NW 23rd where we heard lots of cool restaurants and bars awaited our arrival.
Chris randomly mentioned that at this point it would take 9 hours 19 minutes to get back to Walnut Creek...hmm something tell me that kid can't wait to start working again
Next up Nob Hill Bar & Grill. Chris knows how to pick those raw authentic real local places...The bartender was in a full on verbal altercation with one of the regulars within 10 minutes of our arrival. We moved on from there to a delicious Thai place and then back to rest up for a full day coming up.
Time to hit up Voo Doo Doughnuts, a tourist must. We waited about 20 minutes in line and then had no clue what we wanted when we reached the counter. Decided on a Voo Doo man and a classic cream filled. The guy then asked what I wanted....mmm I think one a piece will be enough for us. After polishing those off I was ready for a nap but we kept on walking.
We had tried to go to Bailey's tap room with looked pretty cool but they had a sign up that they did not serve beer from 12-2....strange...maybe it was just a trick to keep me out of there.
Had a nice long walk, went along and across the river and to Doug Fir Lounge, there was some Horror themed place I wanted to check out too but the did not open til 6pm...darn, next time
We went back and chilled out for a bit and formulated our happy hour plans. Found a great place with fantastic food (and fabulous happy hour prices) Uptown Billiards also on NW 23rd. You don't really notice it from the street. Bartender Loren took great care of us and chatted to a local watch wholesaler Jeff while we ate fantastic salads and a delicious pizza. (Chris now has Jeff's phone number for the future when he is in search of a high end watch...look at us planning for the future)
Kells brew pub for one drink on the way back (way too Irish if you ask me...complete with jig music on constant rotation) Finished the night with some Bulldog Margarita's with some folks who were meant to go see the Women's Soccer Match down the road at Jeld-Wen but they ended up skipping it and hanging with us.
Sadly confirmed that the Portland Beavers (Minor league Baseball) were booted out in 2010 to make room for the pro soccer Timbers. (Good news for the soccer though)
In planning news - after speaking to Louise back in England, we have decided to officially crash the first part of their holiday in the smoky mountains at the start of Sept. We think this is good news...we hope Marc and Louise do too...if not they can always wear disguises and try and hide from us.
