What I did
Lady at the front desk was the granddaughter of the folks who started the place back around 1955. She would be one of many people to inquire with Chris as to whether the royal baby had been born yet. Having not yet been contacted on his royalty hotline phone by his mate Prince Harry or the Prime Minister, we had to let her down easy and say 'sadly not yet'. She took the news well and offered us a map of the place (The 'map' was actually just a coloring book page - she must have known what simple minds she was dealing with) It was not bad, fairly educational, nice little setting in the woods despite some of the creatures appearing to be currently "out of order'
Made a quick stop in Bandon, OR a very cute town for you guessed it.. more fish n chips at the Bandon Fish Market. Yelp and our Road trip USA book have been pretty successful guides so far. Very pretty sea views on Beach Loop Drive of Face Rock and some other rocks on the way.
We drove through to Florence and arrived at Heceta Beach RV park where we would be the lucky winners to the one campsite (of 4 in the park) that had an electric outlet. Woo hoo. At a cool $25 a night this would be our cheapest nights yet...but perhaps our most torturous.
Lesson Learned: No more camping near the beach with massive tent...or perhaps any tent. We definitely had a little battle with the wind while setting ourselves up. We were pretty much convinced we were going to wake up with the roof of our tent on our faces in the middle of the night. We hid out in the RV park community space for a while escaping the windy cold for a while, the lady who ran the mini mart seemed to take pity on us and just said to leave the door locked when we left.
When we got back to our site I could not believe how frikin' cold I was, why why why did I cancel my own summer....what have I done!!!! I bundled up, double jacket, hood, hat, gloves and then hid in the car to soak up the residual heat still inside the Volvo while Chris outside attempted to light a fire in whirling winds...wearing shorts no less...seriously how is he in shorts at this moment.
Chris actually got a nice fire going, we did some quick skewering of some hot dogs since we did not want to be outside too long. With my ski socks on and safely tucked into a fleece blanket and then sleeping back I was plenty warm. We watched the first episode of Game of Thrones and called it a night.
