Where I stayed
Today was all about planning. One week into our trip and it has finally dawned on us that life on the road without an agenda is not the way forward. Looking for last minute hotels and frantically reading about towns as we whiz through them only to turn back at the last minute is both frustrating and really slowing our progress.
So with a hotel day already booked we packed up our tent and said farewell to Crescent city. The plan of action is to get to Golds Beach early, check into our hotel and do some serious planning. Well at least that was the plan until we were stifled by the hotel Nazi who oversees check-ins at the Pacific Reef resort
We arrived in Golds Beach at 11 and thought we would be a little sneaky and see if our room was ready, yes the reservation did specify 3pm check-in but you never know your luck.
Well we were out of luck which i figured was fair enough as we were 4 hours early. The "helpful" lady at reception did let us know what our room number would be at 3 o'clock (she kept saying 3 o'clock like some kind of tick). I figured we could kill some time by grabbing an early lunch but not before taking a peek through our room window. Low and behold the room was ready. I would try my luck again in couple of hours.
Lunch complete (very nice place "Rollin-In-Dough"), we returned to our hotel to have another go at getting in our room. Lunch conversation had mainly consisted of how I need to be a more assertive person if i didn't want people to walk all over me. This had fired me up no end and I was ready to get into that room come hell or high water. I entered reception planning on a full British charm assault (Leslie stayed in the car, this was mans work after all). There was no way she could resist my accent and unapologetic politeness. I started with a complement on how beautiful the town was and how her recommendation for lunch had been spot on
So you have won the battle Lady, but you will not win this war (I already had my eye on the ice machine, and knew that little beauty would take one hell of a beating from me and my massive cooler under the cover of darkness). Defeated for now we decided to start a silent protest by sitting on our rooms balcony and getting on with the much needed planning. If we couldn't get in the room we were at least going to get use of the wonderful view from our room and the free wifi
After about an hour sitting on our balcony the maids had noticed our protest and let us into our room (One whole hour before 3pm).
The planning went well.
#Two nights camping in Florence (Oregon) for Monday and Tuesday night. This is our cheapest nights to date at $25 a pop
#One night in a Cabin, Lincoln city (Oregon) Wednesday night.
#One night in a Cabin, Astoria (Oregon) Thursday night
#Two nights in a hotel, Seattle (Washington) Sunday and Monday night. This is our most expensive nights yet at $200 each.
#Tickets to watch the Seattle Mariners vs Minnesota Twins for Sunday
#Two nights in a hotel, Portland (Oregon) for Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
It feels great to pretty much have the next 10 days all planned out. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the view from our room while sipping on champagne that had been kindly donated to us by Kurtis a work friend of mine before we set out.
That's about it. The coming week will see us pick up the pace, and we should be heading East by Thursday 1st of August.
