I did not have any real expectations before I met you but you have thoroughly depressed me over the last few days. We started off on a good note with a yummy meal at the Lost Coast Brewery. Our later arrival at the KOA right off the highway brought us down a notch. Yes we realize these are KOA's we're talking about but the last one had some trees and was right near the beach and had a fun vibe about it. This one was industrial and made its best attempt to steal my soul. Eureka, like most of the coast we have discovered, is pretty grey and grim most of the day, the bitter chill is tough to take all day long for a Cali valley girl like me.
We used our time here to gear up for our big hikes to come in the Redwoods (hiking shoes and pants for Chris instead of his "jeans & trainers" look and to check out a little of the Victorian downtown. Parts of downtown were cute enough, but mixed with the cold...the place was not for me.
The Samoa Cookhouse came recommended and seemed like it would be pretty yummy/fun but we had just eaten so the timing was off...maybe next time.
We honed our camp cooking skills, lit our first ever camp fires and gladly waved goodbye to Eureka.
