We were lured in by a mention of a Pygmy Forest. Who doesn't want to see tiny nutrient starved trees? The ranger asked us if we were "ready for a hike". If you know us well would say 'no, never'. But there we were ready to explore and set off on a nearly 6 mile loop. The man somewhat convinced us when he said "I'm 60 and I did it the other day"
Encountered a mama deer and her two fawns skipping across the trail and up the canyon. The last stretch was compared to a 20 story climb in altitude so we were suffering a little at the end (being the out of shape folk we are at the moment..) We reached the Pygmy forest of little pines, manzanita etc. (turns out we could have just driven to this part and not even paid...but there would be no glory in that) A very pretty trek overall.
