We arrived in Virginia in the dark, having left Spamalot and New York City at 4.30pm.

Our hosts, Don and Lyn, met us and showed us our rooms in their very spacious and lovely home.

They live close to Washington DC, Don having worked for the federal government.

The following day we visited Mount Vernon where George Washington's home is located.  We then returned "home" in the heat of the day and watched the movie "National Treasure", much of which was filmed in and around Washington DC.

In the afternoon, we went back in to Washington DC and Don kindly gave us a guided tour of the Air and Space Museum.  Don also took us to the National Archives building so that we could see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  We also saw an original of the Magna Carta.

We then went over to Pennslyvannia Ave to view the White House from outside.  We were surprised at its proximity to other Government buildings but it was great to see.

Lyn prepared a great meal for us.  Lyn had a friend over for dinner who had been a presidential photographer and who had travelled on Air Force One and also regularly been in the White House.

The following day Don again was gracious enough to guide us and we saw Capitol Hill, the Vietnam memorial and also the Lincoln Memorial.

We left late morning and headed to our next destination, Christiansburg in Virginia.  We stopped briefly on the way at the Walton's Museum, as the kids have watched most of the Walton's television series over the last couple of years.

specially loving the photo of the declaration of independence. The ones with the kids in are quite good as well. I'm beginning to realise why Samantha was not frisked at the airport before. She is obviously an undercover cop and they didn't want to blow her cover. Come on Samantha, own up.
