We enjoyed the drive from Sproat Lake to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. really beautiful lush scenery.  the kids had a short play in an amusement park in town before we headed on to the ferry.

We had more view than our trip over, but it was bitterly cold outside.  No sign of any exciting sealife, but we enjoyed the hour and a half trip.

We arrived at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to see cousin Malcolm waiting to meet us.  Great to see him again and we enjoyed a late lunch together and then headed off toward Whistler.

Malcolm drove with us as far as Shannon Falls which were really pretty.  I had the pleasure of driving with him in his convertible and enjoying the great views on the way.

From there we travelled the rest of the way to Whistler and checked in to our hotel Ferry from Departure Bay on Vancouver Island

.  It was cosy as once again we all crushed into one room, but a great spot.  It was pretty cold outside and we headed to bed around nine skipping dinner much to the disgust of the kids, we also saw the final game of the NBA finals with Boston taking out the title in game 6.

The next day we got up and the kids all enjoyed the hotel's continental breakfast in the lobby.  We headed out to look around and decided against going up the gondola as they said it was minus 2 celcius at the top.

We also sorted tickets for Samantha and I for our trip on the Rocky Mountaineer train that was due to leave the next day.  We were really inadequately kitted out for the cold weather and enjoyed some wandering around the whistler shops picking up beanies and Chris bought a warm jacket.  Whistler is a really nice ski town, set up to be great for tourists and there is a huge population of kiwis there in the winter season apparently.

We also had a surprise call from AT and T to tell us we had racked up a large phone billl in Canada in the last two weeks.  OOOPS!  Chris spent the rest of the morning and into lunch time trying to sort that out while I took the kids to lunch in town Mainland Canada in distance

Then we headed off to Ziplining.  Now this was really fun.  It was like giant flying foxes through the forest canopy.  Scary enough to be fun, but not too scary for any of us.  I even did one of them upside down with no hands! (those who know me well will know that is a step or two out of my comfort zone)  The guides were great talking along the way about sustainability issues etc which was great for us and the kids.  We even saw a bear that was between us and the group ahead of us so we had to back up to let it through.  This was a great activity for the whole family I would really recommend it if you ever get the chance, I believe they are setting up one in Queenstown in NZ in the next year or so.

We headed into dinner in town after and were all tired, but exhilirated.  Then off to bed as Samantha and I  had to be at the train station in the morning at 6.45am for our train trip to Jasper via Quesnel while Chris, Zack and Cass were driving to Jasper via Kamloops.
