We arrived in Vancouver early afternoon after a cruisy trip up with a stop in Bellingham to do a bit of last minute US shopping, rumoured to be way cheaper than Canada.
We went straight to West Vancouver to visit Cousin Malcolm and his partner Jan and we spent some time at their apartment with a beautiful view across to the city. We then went down to the market at Lonsdale Quay and had a very late lunch, or was it an early dinner. Samantha was thrilled to discover the Canadians have Butter Chicken.
The weather was cool, but clearing so Malcolm took us up Cypress Mountain to look at the beautiful view out across the city. Then we headed off to Vancouver to find the home of the Bennetts who we were staying with for a couple of nights. They lived in a beautiful Vancouver neighbourhood and we piled in to really take up some space
They are already a family of 6, Doris and Robin and their three kids Christopher, Oliver and Maria, as well as their German exchange student, so we stole one of the boys rooms, with our overflow sleeping on the sofa in the lounge. We spent the evening getting acquainted and Chris and Robin even managed to nip out for a hit of tennis. It lead to a pretty late night though with everyone in bed after 11pm. We really enjoyed their company and would have loved more time to get to know them all.
The next morning we awoke to a very cool day. It was about nine degrees in the morning and so we headed off to Granville Island Market. We met Malcolm and Jan there and enjoyed a fun morning of eating and wandering, a really lovely spot. Then we went for a drive around Stanley Park. What a beautiful park so close to the city.
We carried on to a mall and did a bit of shopping before carrying on to visit friends in North Vancouver Meghan and Frankie. Really great to catch up and meet Meghans little boy Levi too. We then headed to the Park Royal Mall to have some dinner. The restaurant recommended to us had a big wait so we went across the road and enjoyed a meal and the opportunity to watch some of Game two of the NBA finals. Then we headed home.
The next day we awoke to more cool weather and the drizzle began to set in. Hmmm. Not condusive to a whole lot of sight seeing so we decided we would make our trip to Vancouver Island this evening rather than in the morning and we set about packing our gear. We headed off and caught the 3pm boat in the pouring rain, not such a great deal of sight seeing to be had on the way over. However Cassandra did manage to buy a very pink coat to stay warm.

Hi all -
Always good to read your news and track you guys down. Do Canadians still say 'is it ever...' all the time??? I have been finalising my Canada trip itinerary and have now added an Intervac swap in Ottawa - nice flat near parliament bldgs - so I am all sorted now - I think....the original 2 week trip is now 6 weeks....nothing like yours of course!!! I was in Vancouver a long time ago(!!!) and I do remember lots of RAIN!!!
Got my Oz friend here at the mo - so we are doing a bit of catching up.
Keep safe all of you.
Love Lynne xx
:)
I've always wanted to go to Vancouver - it's on my list of places to visit. I've heard it's absolutely beautiful. The weather sounds a bit oppressive, but hey - I'm in Chicago so I know bad weather!
Re: :)
It is beautiful, more like home than many cities and a really nice harbour. We actually quite enjoyed the rain, something that we get plenty of at home too!
