We spent the first couple of days getting our GPS and DVD sorted in the van.  We very quickly began to love our GPS, what a forgiving friend.  We have called her Adele as it is an Adelphi model, and boy, is she organised.  We spent a day going to San Juan Capistrano mission, stopping on the way to check out the Montague resort and beach, (beautiful) and Dana Point (beautiful harbour).  We got to the mission and found the roads all closed as it was the annual parade of the return of the swallows, a very cool thing to come across, but it meant it was packed.  We eventually made it throught the crowds to the mission and it was a really interesting look at the history of the area.  The kids enjoyed patting the giant goldfish in the pond.

Chris enjoyed several pick up games of tennis down at the local courts and started driving later in the week so he could get himself down there.  He arrived home really late because it had taken him ages to work out how to use the van lights as it was dark.

Chris and I went out one evening for a japanese buffet with Tom and Gayle, really delicious!

We also spent a day at the science discovery centre which the kids really enjoyed.  Some mornings we enjoyed an early walk in the area, beautiful views in all directions, and plenty of signs warning about mountain lions and snakes.  Apparently not likely to come across them, but we tended to step lightly non the less.

We had a superb time with Tom and Gayle, we felt completely spoilt and totally at home, it was a great and relaxing way to start our big journey.

On our last day we headed off to see Venice Beach on our way to Simi Valley.  Spent ages trying to find a park, and eventually spent some time at the Santa Monica pier, lot's of fun. Then we headed into the LA traffic to get to Simi Valley.

Great decision
Adele is an awesome name for your GPS. I especially like that she is 'so forgiving'.
