We arrived in Cairns ready to meet new people and have a nice relax in cairns after the long day of travelling from bali to singapore and then onto Australia. We settled into a big and famous hostel and were put in a 8 person dorm with three Canadians and a German who had travelled up Australia together. From what we had heard from Cairns we expected a bit of a party and the area had a lot of clubs and pubs around. We arrived at the hostel but could not check in until 2 pm. SO from 9am we wondered around and checked out the area to see what was going on. We also arrived on the morning of bank holiday sunday so when we settled on a patch of grass by the Cairns lagoon the area was busy and friendly. The dorms were clean and the Hostel was really cool with a big club at the bottom which we planned to check out but i never got the chance to due to not feeling too healthy on the first night and just staying and drinking in a dorm on the last night in Cairns. We stayed in Cairns for three nights in total and on the second day we did an organised scuba dive and snorkeling excursion of the Great barrier reef. We had a really nice English instructor when we went Scuba Diving and the water was so clear and some of the fish were beautiful. Australia is full of travellers and staying in dorms is a great way to meet people. The only downside is that its as expensive as england so we have to cook for ourselfs which might be interesting.
