The highlight of our visit was going to be the iconic New Orleans jazz festival, with fleetwood mac playing on the day we were going.. It was pure luck that our dates in New Orleans coincided with the festival and we were very happy about that. We avoided the $36 shuttle bus and caught a $1.50 tram which took us almost to the venue. At last, the sun appeared! The streets were jam packed with people heading for the festival, people who had set up stalls selling drinks for the people heading to the festival, musicians and crowds watching the musicians, and vehicles of all kinds. The atmosphere was cool, the temperature was hot and everyone was in summer gear.

I loved being there and experiencing the whole thing! The first food stall we stopped at sold bags of pork crackling, my favourite, and boy where they good, still warm. The food stalls sold all kinds of weird and wonderful home cooked things, the menus all looked like a different language to me, so i plumped for jambalaya with spicy sausage and tried to svoid anything fishy cause they do love their fish in the south! pulled pork rolls with bbq sauce is another thing which you run into everywhere, also delicious.

I know Im going to upset a few people (what's new I know) but fleetwood mac were crap. They were not at their best ... and even apologised at the end of their set for the bits that went wrong. Instead of playing what everyone really wants to hear, they played some new songs, some tracks from Tusk (not their finest album) and a little bit of good stuff from Rumours most of which I got on video and amounted to maybe 20 minutes in total. If I can I'll upload the videos. They lost the audience about a quarter of the way into the set and didn't find them again until the last song. What a shame! We all felt that none of the music we saw and heard that day was terribly good actually, but it was still great to be there.

We stayed too long in NOLA. We should have left after the festival but had 6 nights booked and couldn't cancel because we booked through priceline! So we took a bicycle tour which taught me a few things I wouldn't have otherwise known ...........

*** New Orleans is surrounded by swamp
*** Some of the houses are sinking because they weren't built with footings
*** The dead aren't buried underground because of the water. They are buried in tombs above the ground and "stacked" in the tombs. The tombs can only be opened after a year and a day and then the contents are taken out and disposed of. These tombs are called " ovens" because they literally bake the contents in the summer heat.
*** The poor areas are only a block away from the "rich" areas and they still practice voodoo

One final story from our New Orleans trip. I have to tell you that Kevin PUSHED me off my bike! I fell off with the usual spectacular lack of dignity and the bike landed on top of me. I was very indignant and sore and everyone on the tour made a fuss, which made it all worse but I was a very brave soldier and got back on my bike and completed the rest of the tour. Can you believe? His version is he was just " guiding" me because I wobbled. Hmmm
I had a very black toe and elbow and a grazed knee and pride and I milked that one for all it was worth. Terrible

I have heard it said that drinking vast quantities of vodka is as easy as falling off a bike! Personally I think it very unfair blaming poor Kevin.
Hope your foot gets better soon and keep the pictures coming

not sure if the rich or poor are practising voodoo.......S'pose you could use this as a test to see if it works. If it's the rich part of town, pleas send a book on the subject!

It's all mumbo jumbo to me ......
