Where I stayed
Ruedsheim is a very quaint little village; cobbled streets, old buildings, disco club.. But we found our hotel and met with our friends Nathan and Xingci who we'll be spending the next two days with.
First day in Ruedsheim;
Breakfast in the hotel, then off to explore the village! We found the parish church of St. Hildegard (a 12th century German healer) and lit a candle for our families. A few kilometers up a hill above the town through some vineyards is the Abbey of St. Hildegard. It has spectacular views of the town nestled right on the banks of the Rhine
At four we boarded the boat MS Willy Schneider for our cruise up the Rhine to Koblenz for the Rhine in Flammen (Rhine in Flames) fireworks festival. Our boat was PACKED with about two hundred Germans all over the age of 50.. then there was us. Oh, did I mention none of them understood a lick of English?? "Sprechen sie Englisch?" Nein. I striuck out in a foreign language with the ONLY girl on the boat in my age bracket. Damn.
Best trip memory so far----singing along to a heavily accented version of Jim Croce's Bad Bad Leroy Brown at the top of my lungs to a boatload of drunk Germans! Classic! Turns out Germans love American folk music.... or at least the piano player did. You haven't lived till you've heard him sing King of The Road. "Trailers for sale or rent..."
Well that's all for now. This German keyboard is frustrating...thez put the Y where the Z should be....
