Where I stayed
Seattle gets 5 - it has good shopping potential
Monteray/Carmel get 7 - nice and quaint
San Fransisco - gets a good 7 - loads of shopping, sight seeing and is nice
We travelled from LA early towards LV, the countryside soon becomes desert and the heat just escalates, the roads are not that good in places cracks and holes but there wasn't a great deal of traffic, there were lots of warning signs for wild life but we didn't see anything
Hoover Dam is tremendous and is well worth a visit, the area is suffering from drought and the water was very low. The engineering is spectacular and at present they are building a new road and bridge to it so it will take many more tourists. Still no wildlife! Chris has done his motor bike visits and wanted to buy one or two, or was it three or four, if anyone knows about shipping over a bike, the laws and the tax, we would be very glad to hear from you. He has seen hot rods, Harley,s and custom bikes, so that should keep him happy for a day or two.
We chilled out a bit in LV, there are shops but it is mainly gambling, there is a long strip with hotels etc, and lots of shows, we missed out on a show and went to see the opening of "Live Longer Die Hard," it was good. It's easy to see why they call this place Sin City. Chris avoided such shows and places!!! LV gets a good 7, you just have to experience it!
We went Route 66 way to the Grand Canyon, it took about 4/5 hours, but it is spectacular, it looks so deep and the colours of rock formation changes, it's like how films show us other planets look like in sci fi films. Again not to be missed.
We have had to re think our plans, at the moment Central America is being attacked with hurricanes, flooding, fires and rain parts of Texas for instance received 18 inches of rain in one night, so we have decided to stick with Route 66 for now taking each day as it comes and closely watching the weather reports ( sounds like England doesn't it)?
So the ROUTE... it's known as Route 40 and other numbers, there are new bits of road and some of it has been maintained other bits are rough. There are a good few bikes on the route and I think Chris is longing...
We are on our way to Albuquerque and then who knows... talk to you soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
