On our first day of our tour of Turkey we went from Istanbul to the Gallipoli Peninsular spending about three and a half hours on the peninsular before heading by ferry to Canakkale for the night.

We visited Gaba Tepe where the ANZAC's where suppose to land - it was a lovely flat bay with a big beach and gentle slope, ANZAC Cove which has a very small beach and enormous cliffs, Lone Pine - the Australian memorial, the Canakkale Martyrs Memorial and Chunuk Bair - the NZ memorial.

It was amazing to see the places that the we see and hear about on ANZAC day in person.

As it was a Sunday there were lots of Turkish tourist and a lovely Turkish man and his family shared there cherries with us up on the hill overlooking ANZAC Cove and The Sphinx.

We spent the night in Canakkale and had a yummy dinner followed by a walk along the water front to see the horse used in the movie Troy and watch the sun set over the ocean. 

An incredibly moving day.
