Where I stayed
We chose the first beach huts we came across which were $7 a night. The thatched hut consisted of a hammock outside, a mattress on the floor, a mosquito net and very basic bathroom, although it had a sit down toilet we only had a barrel of water in place of a shower/sink. It was very basic but comfortable enough for a couple of nights, we had electricity from 7pm until 10pm and the water came on for about an hour a day at random times.
We headed straight for the beach and relaxed there all day moving only to swim in the sea and cool down, it was great. The beach was brilliant with white sand and crystal clear water. There were thousands of crabs living on the beach, they dig themselves holes and scamper away every time you come near. We laid on the beach until sunset which was beautiful, the sunsets in Cambodia have all been amazing actually. It was such a relaxing day as the island is so peaceful and quiet.
That evening we went to one of the hut restaurants along the beach and had some dinner then laid on the bamboo silts watching the stars and listening to the sea. The full moon that evening was amazing too, really lit up the whole sky. We went back to our hut to find geckos everywhere, all over the mosquito net and scurrying around the place. After some loud banging around they soon scurried off and we slept listening to the sounds of the jungle behind us and the sounds of the waves from the beach. It was a bit of a sticky nights sleep though as there are no fans in the rooms and we couldn't shower!
Next morning we got up just after sunrise and went for a walk around the island. This took us miles longer than we had expected, about 3 hours! It was a great walk though as we kept coming across tiny deserted beaches, local families and fishing hamlets. The fishing was crazy as the whole sea was just lines of plastic bottles which they use as there floats with fishing boats going in between.
After our long walk we spent the rest of the day on the beach relaxing, again. Chris was feeling much better so we had a few beers on the beach and watched another amazing sunset. That evening we had some dinner and drank some beers in some hammocks on the beach watching the stars, again. It was great. Chris couldn't handle not showering for a second night so had a shower in the barrel which was quite amusing but hardcore Em roughed it out until she could have a proper shower the next day.
We left the island the next morning and headed back for the mainland. The island was absolutely stunning and just what we had been after, miles away from the tourist mayhem of the Thai beaches. Don't get us wrong it was a very rustic paradise with cows, chickens and stray dogs running around the place and with no running water etc but it was so worth it as it was the most peaceful, relaxing place we have been so far and we loved every minute.
