Back in Georgia and relaxing in a park, Lynsey and I were planning how to zig-zag our way through to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the scenic drive that winds high into mountains of the same name.
First stop though was the town of Augusta, a quick lunch time experience for us and the place where the American love of golf is very evident with the Masters played here annually.
We took the riverside walk through the quiet town and I still couldn't get any decent world cup coverage and so we moved on!!
From our quick stop off in Augusta, we headed to Athens... no not curly shoes and ancient peoples... remember its America!
A general lack of history has given rise to loads of places named after famous historical sites overseas... down the road there is a place called Rome and I am not joking! I bet there is a place called "New Moon" in Texas or Utah!!
So Athens... and unlike its Mediterranean namesake this vibrant town is bursting at the seams with the young guys and gals from the university that makes its home here.
Downtown was much like our own new towns in England, but the weather was far better and that meant we could have a pleasant look around.
Feeling knackered (a word the Americans can't seem to get the hang of!) we turned in for the night, emptying our haul of food into our room before we took our places on our bed to spend a profitable evening doing what many Americans do... namely watching TV and eating food in bed!!
