Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is more developed than Cahuita but the attractions are the same with the beach and the national parks.

It was also a lot busier than Cahuita.  The first seven guest houses I tried were full.  The best offer I got was $12 for an open air hammock.  The Santa Semana gouging had started.  Lucky number eight had a room for me and I some how got a four bed dorm room to myself for a few dollars more than the hammock.  The only downside was that the water sometimes ran out so I couldn't get a shower until the tanker turned up to fill the water tank.

Puerto Viejo turned out to be pretty hot.  We ended up going to the pub at two in the afternoon to watch the Champions League just to get out of the sun and into some air conditioning.  The evening rain storms turned out to be a welcome relief (except when the storm killed the tv transmission with 10 minutes of the Liverpool match to go).

Next stop Panama...
