I had an early start this morning. A quick walk down to the town for a few dives before heading back to my bungalow to pack. After swimming with the fish this morning I had another run in with the local wildlife when an 18" lizard jumped out of my rucksack. I managed to recover from the shock, unpacked my bag incase the rest of his family was there, repacked it, checked out and got the 2pm ferry to Chomphon.
I arrived in Chomphon at 6pm but had three hours to wait for the night bus to Bangkok. This was probably two and a half hours too much. There wasn't much around except for the same shops every twenty yards. Strangely, every second person in this town was wearing a yellow t-shirt. Not sure what was going on there (some Buddhist thing?).
The bus turned up (on time!!!). Unfortunately I drew the short straw and got the seat at the back - the one that does not recline. It was going to be a long nine hours.
I arrived in Bangkok at 5:30 this morning. We all got jumped on by taxi drivers wanting to take us to the airport. A few insisted that I had to get a taxi to Khao San Road even though it was only 200 metres away (I bet that includes a half hour trip of the city too). I have a day in Bangkok before flying out to China tomorrow morning - if I can find out which of the two airports my flight leaves from. Then I'll be heading to Tibet. Looks like I might get some use out of the hiking boots, sleeping bag and warm clothes that I've been carrying around these tropical countries for the last few months.
