My Borneo trip is now over - one week ahead of schedule. I'm not sure if I would have been able to do much more even if I stayed for the extra week. I managed to cover most of North Borneo from the East coast to (almost) the Western border, from the North coast to the Southern Islands around Sipidan, from 35m under under to the 4,100m plus peak of Mount Kinabalu, from jungles to beaches to islands to national parks and I've seen monkeys, orangutans and snakes, swam with turtles and sharks and had a close encounter with a scorpion. I'm pretty impressed with myself.
All in all it's been a pretty good start to the trip (excluding the hostel in Miri that needs a visit from the Rentokill, an industrial cleaning team and the vice squad). Next on the list is a quick visit to Thailand to see the tanks (my second coup!) followed by the "cattle" bus to Cambodia (should be an interesting trip). I haven't been able to change my ticket for Thailand yet so I'm just going to rock up to the airport and see if there's a seat. What can go wrong with that plan?
