On the up side I stopped at a lodge just past the summit and met "Backup" another PCT through hiker. Backup is in his 60s and was just as glad as I was to put California in the rear view mirror (I have one by the way, he did not). He had been hiking in CA for the last 1700 miles! The remainder of the PCT is only 900 miles from the southern Oregon border. We talked for awhile and it turns out he was an old cross country bicycle tourist crossing from Seattle, WA to New York, NY back in 1975. I guess long distances are in his genes. We parted ways as I began to reap the benefits of cycling with a long and well deserved downhill into Ashland.
Back to my "wreck". I got to the Holiday Inn Express (Thank you Jenna!) and preceded to lay on the bed sweaty for the next hour enjoying the AC and trying to decide if I was risking fainting by taking a shower. I opted for a bath, it's safer! You know your tired when the thought of food, or a shower can't motivate you after a hard day on the bike.
Thoughts for the day: Roadside signs are not to be trusted........yesterday south of Mt. Shasta, CA I saw 3 signs over a 2 mile stretch claiming that Mt. Shasta was 12 miles away! My theory is with gas in the engine and your foot on a gas pedal it doesn't matter much how accurate such signs are. Though with a broken cycle computer it matters allot!
