Where I stayed
Today's "Trail Angel" was Katie at the Sierra Sky Motel just outside of Cromberg. I couldn't find the store that was shown to be on the map. The water in my bottles had to be at least 99* (Not very refreshing!). I stopped at the motel to ask if they had a hose and Katie offered to fill my bottles with ice and fresh well water! She was a life saver, I almost had a "brain freeze" that water was so cold
Thoughts while riding today. Why do we climb? For that matter why do we do hard things? I used to say it was for the downhill, but today I decided that wasn't right because the joy that comes at the summit precedes the downhill. There is a fleeting moment as the crest comes into view and the peddling gets easier, that's when joy floods into my heart. I think we do hard things because of the joy we experience when the summit comes into view. Perhaps because today is the Lord's Day, but I think that when we climb to the summit that "joy" is a foreshadowing of the "Joy" we will experience when our Lord comes into view as we "summit" at the end of our lives. The difference of course is that this sinner could never "climb" or earn my way to Heaven. It is only by God's Grace that I'll be lifted from the "False Summit" of my life to the "True Summit" of Heaven and experience the "True Joy" of being with my Lord.
"Sometimes I think when I ride, and sometimes I just pedal."
