A bus ride took me from HsinChu, where I was staying for a day, to the the Yushan Trailhead, where me and about 15 other mountaineers arrived in the evening.
After quite an uncomfortable night in a mountain lodge and some breakfast that reminded me of the soup they have in “the Matrix" (which has no taste whatsoever), we began our hike the following morning.
Being equipped with ice-axes and crampons and thick jackets we managed to summit the West Peak at ~ 3500m on day one.
The following night we then spent in a another lodge at 3400m to start with our ascend to the main peak at 3 o’clock in the morning after having hardly slept on what they called a “mattress”, but what other people would not even call a yoga mat
“Unfortunately” it was then decided to abort our ascend as the weather had turned to be quite bad overnight - it was cold, windy and constantly raining, which was thought to be too dangerous when going up.
Honestly, on the one hand I was quite sad not to summit, but on the other I was quite glad due to the weather, my lack of sleep and my headache, which didn’t seem to get better due to the altitude.
That is why after another horrible breakfast, which did not really supply me with any energy, we then descended through the rain and were incredibly happy when we reached the trailhead again and got onto the bus which took us back to civilization.
This actually might sound too negative, but I am sure, that I will try again to go up there one day!
