In Athens, it was dogs. Lots and lots of stray dogs. They were everywhere: sleeping in parks, walking in streets, sitting in cafes.
In Beijing, it's cats. In the neighborhood where the hotel is, they are scurrying about everywhere. We've seen the bushes shaking, wondered what it was, and out pops a kitten's head through the top leaves.
I wish they could teach them to hunt the bats. Instead, they play and chase each other around and up trees, and seem to kinda do whatever they want...I guess like most cats do anyway.
I guess if India ever hosts the Games, it will be cows. But, for now, cats.
And I know what y'all are thinking...
So, to answer your question: Yes. They do taste like chicken.

Ewwwww.
Hopefully, if cat is served as a meal, it's disguised so you can't tell what you're eating. I saw a program recently about cuisine in the Philippines. Get this: guinea pig on a stick. And it looks exactly like you'd think it would. Thank you but no.
As for all the cats running around...every culture has it but you're right to point out that the animals change from country to country. In Jamaica it was goats. Everywhere. On the beach. In neighborhoods. In shops. On city streets. So weird. And I'll tell you that when the Argentines were here, they were freaked out by all the squirrels running around. Apparently, Buenos Aires is squirrelless. Who knew?
Cats...
Cats, dogs, goats, squirrels - guess it is all about what you are used to seeing. It would be fun to be able look at our environment and culture through the eyes of someone from another country and culture.
Regarding humidity, heat, and smog, however, perception of those is universal, I would think.
