It being so hot and humid, the men (and some of the women) in Beijing have a funny habit of rolling up their shirts to their chest to keep cool. We, on the staff, have dubbed this "Beijing Belly". (Some of our staff drivers were showing Beijing Belly in uniform! You can imagine how that went over with the leadership. Hilarious.)

Everyone has asked me about the food here, and honestly, all the horror stories have not panned out. It is a little...okay, a lot...spicy sometimes, but we have all been pleasantly surprised at how well we have eaten here, both on delicious Chinese food as well as reasonable approximations of Western food with some interesting Asian twists. (I even found a place that serves Diet Dr. Pepper, sold at the premium price of 40 yuan, which I happily paid! Just like imported Champagne, right?)

Aside from a couple of cases of what I am calling "Mao-tezuma's" Revenge, we have had great meals, and even put on some weight. For those of y'all that thought Gregg and I were too skinny, wait 'til you check out our new Beijing Bellies...

When in China...!

Hey Chris!
Hey Chris,
It's Brazos and I wanted to say I love the blog and it sounds like you are having a lot of fun. I have read and heard that the air quality is awful in China and specifically Beijing so I was wondering of the rumors are true?

hope to here from you soon and keep living it up!
Love, Brazos
