Gymnastics? No.
Swimming? Who cares??
Beach Volleyball? No thanks.
Tonight the most sought after event by far is the USA vs. China basketball game. We hear that tickets are being scalped for $4,000 USD. And I was sitting at my ticket desk handing them to our guests for free! My phone has been melting today with texts from people on other programs asking if I had any "spares". Yeah, right! I could've retired on the money I could make if I had any...which is good considering I would be immediately fired!
There is lots of anticipation as to whether Kobe (Lakers, yuck!) can lead the US "Redeem Team" (so named after the Dream Team bronzed in Athens...) back to the top spot. Tonight Team USA goes up against China and Yao Ming, (Rockets, YAY!!) who is hugely popular here, as you might imagine.
Walking around town, you are likely to see more Houston Rockets jerseys than you would on a Saturday at the Houston Galleria! They are prominently displayed in several stores.
So, who to cheer for?? Team USA or Houston's Yao Ming?
