We arrived in the afternoon. It rained all morning but there was a little sunshine specially for us. family there to welcome us and after an hour an half in the car on the most busy roads I've ever seen we got to my brothers house.Welcome dinner but for us really, a good night sleep.
Next morning we went straight to the bike shop where my brother had bought 2 good dutch bikes for us and he decided we might as well try them out as the weather was good.
We did about 50 km.
First into town, along the river "Waal" which due to springtime and recent rains had lots of water and flooded several fields. We rode over dykes, through polders, crossed the border to germany, Zyfflich and Kranenburg. We saw a storknest with stork and we think a baby one as well, which according to the dutch means springtime has reaaly arrived
The next day sunny again! Our first rommelmarkt. This is a fundraising where lots of people bring their junk which gets sold for a good cause. We love it, much better then our garage sales and every weekend there seem to be several of these rommelmarkts in our neighbourhood. What a pitty that i am limited in what I can buy and take!!!!
My brother decided that as the weather was so good we needed another ride and this time we went to the other river in Nijmegen "The Maas". This one comes from france. So again, dykes polders and again back to the south of nijmegen where the forests and hills are. The best thing about the landscape here is the variety where as most of Holland is flat and green with cows and water, nijmegen also has a lot of forest left and there are hills. The hills aren't that big but....You do notice them when riding a pushbike.
Monday, as organised by email, we were able to pick up the key of our little flat in Hatert where we are going to live for the next 3 month.

. Via Groesbeek (Yes they have hills here and by now we also started to have saddle pain) back to our house. Michael and I were pretty exhausted after all this but we thought it a fantstic start of the month here and really enjoyed it and ofcourse slept very well after all this which probably means no jetleg for us.The next day sunny again!
