Heading out early we all packed up with fresh smelling hair and a heap more deodorant... It was a killer walk today - one of the toughest of the whole trek... It was just up and up and up and up - head down bum out moving forward kind of walk. We stopped 1/2 way for lunch (and got baked beans - not looking fwd to the shared room tonight!).
Setting off again we finally reached the top of the hill where there were all these monuments to people who have perished on the mountain. There was a huge monument dedicated to Babu Sherpa who made 2 world records - the first was the fastest ascent of Everest (16hrs 56 mins) and the second is that he spent 21 hours on top without auxiliary oxygen -- totally amazing feats !
After having a slow look around at all these monuments, getting out breath back and letting the blood stop pumping so hard in our legs we trekked off on the flat run into Lobuche. Our accom was very interesting! Leila and I got taken to a room that was outside from the main dining and kitchen area - there were only 3 rooms out here. the room we were given was smaller than the size of a standard bathroom. Neither of us fit on the beds (ie a 5"3' girl of my size was too big for it!), there was a gap of about 30cm between the beds and nowhere to put our packs. The floor was pretty much just dirt and the door didnt close properly (i'm sounding like a sook now)... We asked Bob our trek leader to suss out if there was anywhere else we could sleep and he bought us into another area off the kitchen/tea room that was perfect. It was the best dorm room as it was just a room with a massive bunk bed that was 10/15m long.. Cooooool ! The boys had the same issue with their room so we all decided to bunk together... .felt like high school again - as if we were on school camp except none of us were going to sneak out after dark! Umm -- I will try not to go on about the toilet -- it was the outhouse from hell...Almost made me spew.
Dinner was a struggle, i wasnt really hungry and they were burning the smokiest yak dung we've experienced the whole trip -- we were happy to get back to the dorm room! It was nice and comfy except for Peters snoring which kept a few chicks awake. He got the usual yells and pokes and kicks from us...he didnt even know he was doing it -- what a boy !
