Today was the 6hr bus ride down to the seaside village of Antalya - the start of our beach week!  After breakfast I jumped on the internet and did a few things before we all went and caught the little bus that would take us to the big bus...  It was much cooler this time - the driver still puffed away but with some circulating air we all could breathe a bit better... We stopped a few times for snacks and toilet trips then again for lunch - some lentil soup - after which we continued on our journey...
The mountains and scenery were spectacular - some still had snow on them ans the base of the mountains were surrounded by palm trees... The roads are in great condition and there is hardly any traffic...We soon arrived at the bus station and waited for our smaller bus to drive us into Antalya.. First impressions here were good - lots of shops and great views over the marina.   The bus dropped us a short distance from the Blue Sea Garden Hotel and we loved what we saw -- a huge restaurant courtyard, a bar and a pool - spoilt!   We quickly dumped our bags and set off to explore the old town.   Lots of beautiful old buildings and tourist shops and a lot of the owners didn't do the pushy sell on you ... nice change!
We saw some old Roman ruins that were subsequently built over by a church.   They only recently dug up some graves so there is more to be found we think....Close by is the Hotel Alp Pasa - an 18th century mansion that has some old artifacts in a back courtyard ... the best  thing here was the old candlestick holders with the mass of melted wax attached...
More walking through the lane ways and we came across Hadrians Gate - this one made of marble - walking through it led to the shops!    The girls and I wandered for a few hours and I managed to hold off on buying anything (carrying too much as it is!) then met up with another 2 of the group over the road. A huge parade was going on with lots of floats, dancing and marching -- it was all for Childrens day which is in a week or so... It was time to head back - Flik and I quickly deviated to take some pics of the cliff faces and surrounds then went back for a quick shower... We had chicken schnitzel and salad and a heap of mezes... it was nice for a change from kebabs... there was so much food some of the group who shall remain anonymous had to undo their pant buttons... Some went for a walk after tea but Gem, Jimmy, Dave & I vegged out with an apple tea and some sheesha.... The first coal they put on wasn't the best so it was hard to puff away so we asked for another.. this one was what we needed.. it was puff city and the apple tasted so much better... We stayed for a while until we were appled out and crashed...
