It was hot hiking up in the sun and then freezing temperatures in the shade.  The lack of atmosphere at this high altitude makes the sun so much brighter.  And the UV rays heat the earth in a way they can't at lower elevations.

It was much like experiencing 4 seasons in one day!

Mark was able to track down a couple small herds of Mule Deer.  There were two or three bucks in the first herd and a few fawns and doe.  These deer were much larger than any of the deer in Ohio and much more use to people.  I was amazed at how close we were to the deer without spooking them.  We were able to walk around them without the deer even getting up from their cool resting spots in the shade of the Ponderosa conifers.

I snapped a few pictures of the terrain and the wildlife.  (Notice the contrasting difference in the snow and desert like rocks we were hiking)

The building in the pictures is the Coors Brewing facility - tapping the fresh Rocky spring water - at the base of the foothills.

Denver is amazing.  I love it here.  There's so much to do and explore, but as Lord Byron view nature as a respite, I know I cannot linger for the pacific awaits.

Tonight we'll head to dinner in Boulder, Co, enjoy a few post-hike beverages (Colorado does beer right), play a few games of UNO with my niece Emma (she's a champ), meet up with Betsy's older brother Ben all before bedtime.

Tomorrow I'll take a scenic drive over the continental divide and through the biggest mountains our country has to offer!
