Just west of Joliet, Ill an SUV cut me off and flung a rock and cracked my windshield. I'm not happy with my last gift from the midwest. I pulled off at the next exit and took a couple snapshots of the small two inch crack in my my poor prius' windshield.

As the sun was beginning to set some excitement appeared on the horizon. The first sightings of the giant wind turbines!  These things were much larger than I imagined and the pictures don't do them justice.  When I first saw them I got a small chill--a feeling of the sublime--it was as if I was seeing two huge prehistoric creatures!

I stopped in Des Moines and called Jodie Emersion (Jodie and Jason graciously offered to open their home as an overnight rest stop)  to let her know my status.  When I returned to the highway I was listening to 'This American Life' from Chicago Public Radio and was so taken by the story that I completely l=overlooked that the highway split and I was heading directly south to Kansas City!!  Lucky, I discovered my blunder before I drove too far south.  I exited, entered a gas station, asked for directions and apparently drivers often make a gaff in that area cause the gas attendant had preprinted direction on how to return to I-80 West!

I delayed my arrival to Jodies and Jason's in Omaha  by 45 minutes or so, but luckily they were still awake and willing to greet me after my drive.  After a little catching up and welcomed face-to-face conversation, it was time for bed.

This morning I woke up at 630AM.  After a quick bowl of cereal and buying some coffee in Omaha I stopped to take some pictures of the sun rise outside the city.  Too bad they turned out a little more fuzzy than I would've liked.  I guess I still need some practice with the new camra before getting to the Rockies when I hope to get plenty more pictures!

Right now I'm sitting in a Starbucks in York, Nebraska.  I have about 7 more hours to drive today before arriving at Denver.  I'm ready for some mountains cause everything is sooo flat here!

 Back to the road!  =D
