This morning snow began falling as we packed up the rest of my clothing, bedding and (of course) coffee maker. Mounting my bicycle rack mid-blizzard proved to be more difficult than I anticipated, but before too long my old Calivier was stocked full of luggage.
Saying goodbye to Ben this morning was surreal. I grew up with Ben in childhood and during sometime during college it felt like that would be it. Expected I guess. After college it was excited to move in for what we thought was a year. It turned into 18 months. I'm happy I got a rare gift to live and bond with my brother for some strange sequel to our childhood
After the goodbye we defrosted the cars and left Columbus. The roads were bad. The normal 50 minute trip home took almost twice as long to traverse. Betsy lead the Northward charge up US-23 in her Carolla (fully equipped with Michigan-tested snow-tires). We both faired well in the wintery elements. My bike arrived with the spokes fully encrusted with salt and blackened road-snow. Disgusting task to clean. I can't imagine how my bright teal schwinn will look after driving through the Rockies!!
We're home now in Bucyrus and ready to make the final preparations for the trip.
The plan is to leave late Friday to make it for a Saturday brunch with Betsy's parents, but the weather isn't cooperating and who knows how long the last minute errands will take.
*Pictures later tonight!
