Situated on a river near the village of Vang Vieng in central Laos is the next biggest thing - Tubing.
Basically, it’s a bunch of bars all along the river, and you get really really drunk and do a massive pub crawl. Once you’re done with a pub, then just swim onto the next bar, it’s as easy as that!
There are lots of entertaining things to do aswell. For example, the rope swings are hilarious. Massive 20m rope swings take you to dangerous heights which give the ultimate thrill. They’re also great to watch, because some people are quite amazing at them. One guy from Laos (obviously been working there for a while) was doing perfect back flips into the water, some people use their legs instead of their hands.. and some people take epic belly flops which are hilarious.
There is also a massive slide, which is at the end of the river. I never made it to all of the bars, but I’ve spoke to people about this one and it sounds amazing. Must be about 50m high, and the slide blasts you out at stupid speeds into the river from quite a height too. I’ve got to do it before I leave.
It turns out to be a long day as well. You start quite early around 1 o’clock and keep drinking all day long until 6 o’clock when things go dark. During that time you’ll be enjoying free shots from all the bars in town, being painted on by random people and getting own with perminant markers saying things like “glory hole” or “enter here” with a large line towards you know where.
Other things to enjoy are things like beer pong, which is a great game (despite the fact me and Matt lost it). When you have 9 cups all full of beer and then you have to throw a ping-pong ball into the other teams cup. If you get one in they have to drink it. Simple as that.
Loads of English though, which kind of ruins it, but probably one of the best parties I had ever been to. I don’t know what they put in their drinks, but I had the most vicous hang over the next day. Matt and I spent the whole day watching movies and generally feeling bad about ourselves. However, today I feel fine, and I think I’m ready to do that slide now.
