One of my favourite films of all time is ‘Blood Diamond’. I have watched that film many times, and i think its great. I will not hear anyone bad mouth Leonardo Di Caprio, he is a legend and that film was a master piece! (Although, Titanic did ruin his reputation slightly, but shh) Anyway, in the film he has a catchy abbreviation that sums up all the unanswerable things that go on in Africa. He has a saying with his friend at the bar called T.I.A, which stands for This Is Africa! A fantastic way of explaining the questions that cannot be answered.
Anyways, i adapted this saying into my own unique way. I invented the word T.I.C. At first i thought that people would laugh at me for having such a silly abbreviation, but it has actually started to catch on, and now everyone in my group used the phrase.
Examples of situations to use T.I.C
- Mothers holding their babies to have a poo over bins
- Motorcyclists who do not wear helmets
- The lack of Police in Sanxiang
- The way you cannot put your chop sticks into rice, meaning that you want to kill someone on the table
- Working weekends
- Foul smells that often hit your delicate nasal regions
For a long time i was happy with my new ‘hip’ saying.
Until one night i was chatting to an American at the bar district in Sanxiang. I was telling him about my original ‘T.I.C.’, but as i said it he finished my abbreviation. I was shocked. It turns out that it is an already established saying within China amongst westerns. I was so pissed off.
So let that be a lesson to you kids, if you want to be original and interesting; DONT.
Everything good has already been though of, so don’t bother trying!
