December 26 We trust today thing would be open... but it's St. Stephen's day and irish celebrate it too, so everywhing's closed once again! on the verge of a nervous breakdown we decide going to Howth, a small fishing village located aprox 1 hour from Dublin. I really recommend this one-day tour; Howth is a lovely village, easy to visit by foot, clean, full of restaurants and cafés and it's the epitome of an irish town. From Dublin you just have to take the bus number 31 and it costs only 2€ each way. I recommend leaving the bus at the last stop to see the spectacular cliffs.
If you go on summer or on a sunny day you can take some sandwiches and have lunch there, it's absolutely perfect. Cliffs are impressive! It's a bit hard to walk through the wet grass and the mud but it worth the effort.
Then we walk down to the town. Houses are all cozy, with coloured doors and lots of flowers. The town has a cute cemetery too, with a church in ruins right in the middle. It's nice because you can walk among the tombstones while you're seen the sea and the sailing boats.
At 3 o'clock we sit on a small café and eat a panini and share a portion of delicious french fries (they are probably the best fries I've ever eaten). Irish have the habit of adding vinegar to french fries but I didn't like it at all (sorry irish people!). Later we walk through the sea promenade and arrive at Howth's Head; an awesome lighthouse located at the end of the pier. From here you can see an islet where you can arrive by boat (only in summer time).
At 7:30 p.m aprox we go back to Dublin and we are surprise to see that pubs are open! YEEEAHHHH!!!! So at night we and other guests of the hostel (american, argentine, italian, swedish and australian) go to Temple Bar and spent the night at Fritzsimmon's, a five floor pub with acceptable music and good atmosphere, although drinks are quite expensive. I find it curious that security staff ask everyone for ID card to check if we are over 18 years old... I'm 25 and my friend's 29!! do security staff follow very strict rules or maybe we look like kids? ;)
