August 3rd
Our trip through the islands ends here and we hace to go back to the greek capital. This time we're not arriving at the principal port, Pireus; we leave Mykonos at 1:15 p.m and arrive at Rafina's port five hours later, and then we take a bus to Athens.
We are staying at Hostel Zeus, the same place where we stayed before going to the islands. After ten days crossing the country we feel really tired so we spend the night calmly in Omonia Square and go to bed early as good girls.
August 4
It's obvious we're back to Athens. We wake up at 8:45 a.m 'cause it's impossible to sleep because of the extremely hot weather! It's almost 40ºC in the early morning O_o
Today we go to a post office because my friend wants to send some postcards and later we go to the Archaeological Museum (to avoid the heat, honestly), then walk along Akadimias street and finally we arrive to the National Gardens, wich are very big and savage, like a kind of jungle in the heart of the city.
Later we go to our favourite part of Athens: Plaka! I think I could be walking along these narrow streets for all my life and I'd never be bored.
It's time to buy some presents for family and friends: baklava and melomakaronia (greek sweet pastries), the very well-known eyes of luck and bottles of ouzo, the famous and extra strong greek liquor par excellence.
We're leaving tomorrow so we have to go to the hostel to do the baggage. This time we're sharing the room with two New York city boys and we chat with them awhile before we go to Monastiraki (again) to have dinner.
We are a little bit sad because our greek adventure finishes tomorrow but we want to do something special to say good bye to this magnificent country sooo... we go to a greek tavern and taste several liquors!
August 5
It's the final countdown, in a few hours we will be back at home and we can't believe our trip has finished.
This two weeks have been marvellous, we've enjoyed Greece very much and we've not had any unforeseen one, everything perfect! I think it's been one of the best trips in my life and I won't be able to avoind feeling a little bit blue when I'd be far awat from here :'(
It's sunday so at 11:15 a.m it takes place the change of the guard at the Presidential Palace, just next to the National Gardens and it does not have a waste. Soldiers dress like clowns! (with all my respect, of course) They are wearing a white miniskirt, tights, red hat, white blouse and a pair of funny shoes with big pompoms, the most original soldiers I've never seen! very enterteining, believe me.
After the "spectacle" we go to Keramikós old cemetery and then have a look at a street market localed in front of the cemetery. 3 o'clock: time to eat something - a veggie pita with french fries (today I had whim of french fries, I don't know why!) and we're grateful for that the turk restaurant has air conditioning.
How not! we spend the evening at Plaka and we discover a nice street, Farmaki Street, a jewel .
We go to the airport at 10:00 p.m and our flight departures at 4 in the morning so we have six hours ahead to... to drink milkshakes, do sudokus and sleep, basically.
The greek odyssey has finished but I already have planned future trips across the islands. There's almost 3,000 islands in Greece so I can do lots and lots of trips: Amorgós, Anafi, Naxos, Ios, Skiatos, Rodas, Kos, Samos, Lesvos, Sifnos, Serifos, Folegandros... Greece doesn't end here!
