August 1st
Lamentably we have to say good bye to this idyllic island because our Greek Tour continues. Four days to the end of the trip and we want to visit the famous throughout the world island of Mykonos; party's temple, tourists' heaven and gay paradise.
Arriving to Mykonos from Santorini takes 10 HOURS! and that's because it isn't a direct boat. The ferry we take has this route: Santorini - Anafi - Folegandros - Paros - Naxos - Mykonos, and when we arrive at our destiny we are on the verge of dying because everything is soooooooooo expensive!! my godness, hotel owners ask us for €100-120 per night for a room! My friend and I image ourselves sleeping in the beach because we're not able to pay this fortune, but finally a woman that first asked for €100 reduces the price to €50 (twin room, shared bathroom). BARGAINING IS STILL ALIVE!
Hotel Kastelakia is pretty far from the center of the town but it has a bus stop just few meters away. There's about 1km to city center and about 600m to the nearest beach, Plati Gialós. Be careful and if possible pay the exact amount to the bus driver because if not, he won't return the change to you!
Mykonos is a nice island but it's totally taken by the masses of tourists that come there to party and party and party. I think this is the worst of the greek islands I've visited, but hey it's nice anyway!
It's almost 8:00 p.m and I haven't eat anything yet so I buy a tyropita (one of the cheapest things you can find in the island) and eat it while we walk along the streets.
Late at night we see Petros, the pelican that has become the official pet of the island. It must feel like a rock star, with all this smiling tourists taken photos while it eats a plant...
August 2nd
Today we get up late and we go walking to Plati Gialós beach. We find a good place near the sea and stay there till 3.00 p.m. I get sunburned as never in my whole life! I'm a human shrimp!
Then we take the bus to Mykonos capital and have lunch at a fast food restaurant called "Alexis", next to the bus station. A vegetarian pita costs €1.80 and it's big and tasty enough.
As we are walking along the sea promenade we discover a small beach full of parents (well, only FATHERS) and kids and we spend the evening there.
At night we sit on a terrace bar but it's cold so we go to the hotel early. Yes, cold. Mykonos is a extremely windy island (wind is like mini-hurricanes, now I understand why they have windmills) and at night the weather turns cold even in summer. Wind is troublesome but bearable, but insure yourselves of taking a hoodie or a jacket if you want to be in the streets at night!

Cute flower-pot stand
We go to the little hill where the five windmills of Mykonos are located. They seem to be saying "welcome" to the travelers - that's a very wonderful view of the island. Then we walk along the district called Little Venice, very beautiful (I recommend it especially) with the balconies of the white houses put out to the sea. See how the waves break against the walls of the buildings and the water wets the balconies!Late at night we see Petros, the pelican that has become the official pet of the island.
